| In January of 2003, John Ferguson organized the first Band Scramble, an idea that was genius in its simplicity. Musicians from around the Kansas City area entered the competition and were randomly drawn together into bands. They then had three weeks in which to write three songs and then perform them on stage at The Brick. One band that fate brought together in the Band Scramble consisted of Ian Ballard, drums (Minds Under Cover), John Bersuch, vocals and keyboard (Minds Under Cover, Forrest Whitlow and the Crash, Bacon Shoe, and The Mouth Band), John Granger, guitar (The Gogs), and Shawn Sherrill, bass (Shiner, Unknown Pleasures, and Roman Numerals). The band quickly came together in John Bersuch's West Bottoms loft and Christ Fist was born. Not only did the band write three songs for the competition, but they recorded two of them, as well. John Bersuch, acting as his alter-ego, LethalD, also produced a re-mix of the eponymous song for inclusion on a three track CD that was distributed at the Band Scramble performance. |
